K-K involved in London stations Olympic upgrade
Kwik-Klik hoardings are being used at Cannon Street railway station in central London as a Network Rail programme to upgrade 14 of the capital's stations gets under way.
A £5million upgrade of Cannon Street station, situated on the north bank of the Thames, will involve improvements to 5 platforms and take over 2 years to complete.
When tendering for the Network Rail contract, Kwik-Klik carried out complex wind load calculations on its Soundmaster system to prove that the hoardings could safely withstand the air pressure generated by trains passing through the station.
All members of the Kwik-Klik installation team had to complete a 3-day training course before they were allowed to begin work on the platform and concourse areas.
The Kwik-Klik team has already installed 1hr fireproof doors and hoardings in a basement storage area which will be used by the contractors.
Managing Director Tony Doherty believes this is one of Kwik-Klik's most prestigious contracts. "We all knew that the Olympics would generate a number of opportunities for UK companies and we're delighted to be involved with Network Rail on this and other major projects in London."
Network Rail plans to upgrade 14 of its main line stations before the 2012 Olympics. Regular updates on Kwik-Klik installations relating to this programme will appear on our website in the coming months.
