K-K and Ecogenik in T2 success at Dublin Airport
The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) is leading the way in the use of eco-friendly construction materials in Ireland. It is the first company in Ireland to use Kwik-Klik systems and it is dealing with our outdoor division, Ecogenik, who specialise in hoardings made from recycled plastic and pvc.
Over 1.5 km of hoarding panels is required to establish a secure perimeter around the construction area for the new Terminal 2 (T2) buildings. The K-K system being used is Ultraspan Extra, made from 100% recycled PVC. It is supported by a robust tubular steel configuration anchored in concrete blocks.
The DDA was impressed with the system’s re-usable and recyclable properties. The new terminal will open to the public in two years’ time in April 2010 and the modular design of the system allows it to be easily moved a re-located during the project.
“During the building of T2 we intend to keep construction waste to a minimum and using this new type of hoarding will allow us to do that.” said Mark Foley, the DAA’s Director of Capital Programmes.
K-K managing director Tony Doherty is delighted with the way the hoardings are performing. “This is the first time we’ve exported to Ireland and we’re very excited to be involved in such a prestigious project as T2. We’re sure our panels will withstand the airport environment and maintain safe external walkways for pedestrians accessing the airport.”
